Ancestral Figures

Ancestral Figures

This book is born of two intertwined sources of inspiration: the enduring presence of my ancestors and the living heritage of Blair Road.

To my grandfather, whose vision lit the hearths of our lineage.
To my grandmother, whose grace and Peranakan traditions remain a quiet inheritance.
To my parents, who gifted me education, resilience, and love.
And to all ancestors whose whispers guided my steps — your presence endures in every page, every motif, and every memory carried forward.

The walk that began on Blair Road, continued through the NUS Baba House, and culminated at the Peranakan Museum became a mirror of their legacy. Each façade, patterned tile, and veranda echoed the values instilled by those who came before me: devotion, perseverance, and the courage to preserve heritage.

Together, these ancestral voices and the Blair Road walk form the heartbeat of Peranakan Tale: Forbidden Love Across the Straits. They remind me — and invite readers — to see heritage not as something past, but as something alive, breathing through us in the present.
